Biblical orthodox faith, as expressed in the Creeds and Scriptures, is foundational for the life and mission of our Church, and is the faith common to the Christian church as a whole. That faith is also at the heart of our church constitution and liturgies, and is strongly held by the majority of the world’s 77 million Anglicans.
A sad reality is that minority extreme voices, from both within and beyond the church, have had a disproportionately strong influence on the direction of the Anglican Church in New Zealand in recent years. This has resulted in confusion about core beliefs and moral values, caused decline in church attendance and inhibited the mission of the church. One of the reasons for this has been the lack of any organised group within the church to actively advocate for a balanced orthodox view.
Anglican Mainstream NZ is a network of individuals and parishes that seeks to engage at every level in the church to promote the central beliefs and values of mainstream Christianity. As a voluntary society within the church Anglican Mainstream NZ is a voice for the many Anglicans who hold to orthodox faith but have felt powerless to influence the direction of the church as a whole.
This organisation does not promote a narrow party line, but represents a wide cross-section of Anglicans who hold to a Biblical faith. |

What we hold in common:
We uphold the creedal beliefs of the Anglican Church, and affirm especially:
(a) The love of God as the source and motive of our life and mission;
(b) The Lordship of Jesus Christ over the church and the world;
(c) The authority of the Bible as God’s living word to individuals and communities;
(d) The Holy Spirit’s gifting of all Christian women and men for their varied ministries;
(e) The centrality of evangelism within the whole mission of the church;
(f) The need for continuing renewal of local congregations as living communities of faith and love;
(g) The priority of prayer and worship as under girding all Christian life and action.
The other societies that are partners in AFFIRM are:
